PUSHCHA-VODITSA PARK

If you are looking for a quiet place to relaxwith family or friends and spend a day far from the bustle of the city, you probably cannot find a better spot in Kyiv than Pushcha-Voditsa Park. The lush greenery of an ancient forest, picturesque lakes, and healing fresh air will make you forget that youare in one of the largest European metropolises.

Pushcha-Voditsa Park was established in the 1905 year and it is only a part of a hugewoodland with an old history. Even the word “Pushcha” means dense forest, and “Voditsa” – is the name of the river that ran here and was connected with the Dnieper. Pushcha-Voditsa was always appreciated for its beautiful nature and was considered as the best place for rest and outdoor activities.

It was first mentioned in the 11th century as a hunting ground for Kyiv Princes. Since the early 18th century here wasforestry; and at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, there was builtan elite cottage village where Kyiv nobility and rich merchants had their summer residences. In the second half of the 20th century, many sanatoriums, recreation centres, and state residences for government officials were established here.

Nowadays Pushcha-Voditsa is a subdistrict of Kyiv known for its healing microclimate, scenic landscapes, and beautiful park. Although the park is located on the edge of the city, it can be easily reached by public transport from Nyvky, HeroivDnipra, or Academmistechko metro stations. But the most beautiful, romantic and ancient way to get to Pushcha-Voditsa is to take a tram from Kontraktova Ploshcha. The tram line to Pushcha Voditsa was laid in 1904, and since that time it became not only a means of transport but also a popular tourist attraction. The tram ride takes about an hour and half of this way goes through a picturesque forest, among ancient pine-trees and huge oaks.

The territory of Pushcha-Voditsa is divided into 14 lines (streets); you can get off at any stop and have an exciting nature walk. The park is located between the 5th and the 8th lines. It is opened 24 hours a day and has all the necessary facilities for a comfortable pastime and active leisure. In 2019, the park was reconstructed and nowadays visitors can enjoy its beautiful renovated central entrance, art benches, beautiful sculptures, places for rest, cycle tracks, and footpaths. There also were installed new sports and children’s playgrounds. In addition, if you would like to escapefrom the bustling tourist spots andhave a long walk off the beaten tracks, you can turn into the forest and enjoy the nature. In Pushcha-Voditsathere are also some cafes, a grocery store, and even a hotel, placed not far from the park.

Pushcha-Voditsais beautiful and green all-the-year-round since it consists mainly of pine trees and oaks; it is also known for its spectacular lakes with clear, clean water. One of the most beautiful lakes is Gorashchiha placed not far from the main entrance. The lake has wide sandy beaches with rest facilities which make it a perfect place for swimming and sunbathing;you can also rent a boat or catamaran here.

It’s no wonder that Pushcha-Voditsa is one of the favourite spots among local people and tourists. In summer it is an awesome area for spectacular cycling and having rest at its sandy beaches; in autumn you can have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful colours of the forest. In winter it’s a great location for skiing and skating, and all-the-year-round it is an amazing park for having a pleasant stroll and enjoying nature.
