A peculiar feature of the National Historical-Cultural Reserve “The Field of the Battle of Poltava” is that it preserves authentic landscapes of the 18th century, original remnants of the defensive redoubts as well as memorable monuments and sights of the Great Northern War period.

The highlight of the tour is a visit of the Poltava Battle History Museum that consists of 9 halls and hosts a large number of documents, weapons, pictures and artifacts of the war period. The exposition gives a complete overview of the historical and political situation of the 18th century. Besides a visit of the exhibition, you will discover a monument to the Peter I, situated in front of the museum.

The next sight you are going to see is a St. Sampsoniy Church, built in honor of the victory of the Russian army in the Battle of Poltava. In front of the church, you will see a common grave of Russian soldiers. Then, your guide will show you memorial signs – “To Swedes from Russians” and “To Swedes from Swedes” (1909) and the Monument to the Defenders of the Poltava Fortress.
