Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is without a doubt one of the most visited tourist attraction in Kyiv. Founded in 1051, this holy place has always played a key role in the development of the country. The architectural ensemble of Lavra is impressive and it’s history is rich.
Your expert guide show you the stunning building of the Dormition Cathedral and tell you the story about how it was destroyed during the World War II and then rebuilt. You will see a famous Lavra Bell tower that rises over the whole territory of the monastery. Nowadays it is opened for visitors, so if you want you can climb to the top and admire the bird’s eyes view of Kyiv.
The relief of the monastery is very uneven, so you will have to go up and down to explore all the hidden treasures of this place. You will meet the monks and hear about their way of life in the monastery.
Moreover, you will be able to explore famous Lavra Caves and wander through the underground labyrinths with a candle. There are relics of the saints in the Caves that have healing properties and many people come from all over the world to worship them and to ask for health and happiness.
If you are curious and want to see more, we highly recommend you to visit some interesting museums, situated on the Lavra territory. For example, in the Microminiatures Museum, you will examine the works of a famous artisan M. Syadrisky – a rose in a human hair, a flea with golden horseshoe, the smallest book etc (optional visit for additional fee, closed on Tuesdays).
