Chernobyl disaster that happened in 1986 was one of the most harmful ones in the history. Fatal mistakes of the local engineers led to a huge explosion at the nuclear plant.
People still feel aftermaths of this tragedy. But now the situation around the affected territory has changed. The radiation level is significantly lower, and Chernobyl tours are now available. But there are some restrictions if you want to walk through abandoned streets and districts of this place. Children can’t visit this area, minimum visitors age is 18+; you should also pass some test detectors and go there only with an experienced guide.

A. Red Forest. It is a vast forest that was affected with a massive attack of radiation. No one lives there now, and the contamination of this place was huge.
B. Chernobyl Cooling Pond. It was a prosperous fish farm. After the explosion, the pond was affected with radiation. For years, scientists have been exploring this area. Now, it still exists, there are many fishes and other organisms in the pond.
C. Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The Ministry of Ecology administrates this facility. It is the restricted area for visitors.
D. “Sarcophagus” Cover. Skilled French engineers apply extra efforts and work hard to create new sturdy NSC for the 4th reactor of the plant.
E. Exclusion Zone. It is the vast area around the plant that occupies about 2500 square km. It is one of the most contaminant places in the world.
F. Bridge of Death. This bridge helps to come closer to the plant. You should have specific permission to visit this place.
G. “Lazurnyi” Swimming Pool. It is one of the most dramatic sights in Pripyat. This area was used in the popular video game “Call of Duty.”
H. Palace of Culture “Energetic.” This location was created for local workers. After the explosion, people were evacuated. Now the building is decayed and time-worn.
K. Pollissya Hotel. In the past, this hotel welcomed significant guests, and now it is abandoned and half-ruined building in Pripyat that attract tourists from different countries.
L. Amusement Park. This park has never welcomed any visitors because the opening was planned in the May of 1986. The crash ruined these plans, and now the amusement park looks the same frightening as the rest of the territory of Pripyat.
