Your day trip to Kaniv will start from the pick-up from your Kyiv hotel. The distance from Kyiv to Kaniv is 126 km and you will enjoy a comfortable ride in a private vehicle with your local guide. On the way to the Shevchenko National Preserve, you will get the introduction to the most significant facts of the life of Ukrainian poet.
It’s hard to overestimate the contribution of T. Shevchenko to the development of the literature not only in Ukraine but in the whole world. For example, his eternal collection of poetry “Kobzar” is translated to over than 100 foreign languages and there are more than 1100 monuments all over the world dedicated to a prominent Ukrainian poet.
There are several museums of T. Shevchenko in various cities of Ukraine; however, the one in Kaniv is very special. One of the oldest Historical and Cultural Reserves of Ukraine is situated in a place where T. Shevchenko was buried according to his will. You will discover the burial place of the poet on a high Tarasova Hill, overlooking the wide Dnieper River.
Not far from it, there is a Memorial Museum of T. Shevchenko, built in 1937 and renovated in 2010. The collection of the museum counts with more than 20 thousands of unique exhibits and includes rare early editions of T. Shevchenko poetry, his memorabilia, photo and audio materials, the artist’s etching, etc.
Another must-visit place in Kaniv is a folk museum Tarasova Svitlitsa, built in 1884 on people’s money. The interior of the traditional Ukrainian hut is decorated with the portraits of T. Shevchenko, icons, wreaths and embroidered towels.
After visiting these significant museums you will enjoy a pleasant walk through the cozy and peaceful territory of the Reserve and admire the view of the Dnieper River.
Before starting our return trip, we’ll make a stop at one of the city’s cafés, where you may have lunch (optional). Then, get on board and relax on the way back to Kyiv, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel.
